Frequently Asked Questions
Here we try to answer the recurring questions that we’re often asked about the gates we manufacture here at Windsor Gardens in Adelaide’s North East. Feel free to give us a call if you would like more info or to request a free quote.
Q. How much does a gate cost?
A. It depends on the size of the gate, whether its timber, aluminium or steel , whether we need to supply posts, what lock and fittings you choose, whether an intercom is required, if it’s going to be automated and what finish is required.
Q. What is the difference in price between a Cedar gate and a powder coated aluminium gate?
A. They are approximately the same price. Size is obviously important when determining the price of your gate. We build gates to last and only use quality materials and componentry so if you’re looking for a cheap gate under $500, you’re better off going to Bunnings or Stratco.
Q. What is the least expensive gate that we make?
A. Gates made from Powder coated steel tube are generally the least expensive gate option. Single Gates are also obviously cheaper than Driveway Gates.
Q. How long does it take from time of order to installation?
A. It depends on how busy we are at the time, but generally speaking, we can deliver and install your gate anywhere from 3-6 weeks after written approval to proceed with your order.
Q. How long will a gate last?
A. With proper maintenance, a Cedar gate will last 20-30 years. This means painting or oiling your gate to ensure it stands up to the elements and the changing of the seasons. An Aluminium or Steel Gate has an indefinite lifespan providing no one backs into it with a car!
Q. Where does the Western Red Cedar come from?
A. The Cedar we use comes from Government managed plantation forests in Canada.
Q. What is the maintenance on a timber gate?
A. A gate with timber decking oil needs to be re-oiled every year, a painted gate needs to be re painted every 6 years.
Q. Why does a driveway gate need a steel frame?
A. For additional strength plus the automation systems need to be connected to a steel frame.
Q. What automation systems do you use and why?
A. We use Centurian because they are a quality and reliable low voltage system with back up service and spare parts.
Q. Do we offer ‘supply only’ gates?
A. Yes we do. We work with architects, builders, landscape designers and landscape gardeners who often ask us to manufacture gates for their projects.
Q. Do you do colorbond fencing?
A. No we don’t. We can provide Timber Screening to match your gate project or as a feature in your garden design but we don’t do fencing.
Q. Do we charge for quotes?
A. No we don’t. We offer you a Free Quote. Our Quotes are valid for 30 days.
Q. Do we give quotes over the phone?
A. Yes we do. We can provide ball park quotes over the phone with your measurements, then if you would like a more accurate on site quote we can schedule a time that suits you. We generally quote on Fridays.
Q. Do you have ready made gates on display?
A. All of our gates are custom made to measure so apart from the gates that are in the production line, or are awaiting to be installed, we don’t generally have them lying around. The best idea of the types of gates that we produce can be found on our website. We can manufacture virtually any style of driveway gate so feel free to give us a call or email is through some photos or images of the style of gate you require.
Q. Do you offer a warranty on your gates?
b) or Structural
A. Our gates are made with quality materials, to quality standards and then installed with care, but unfortunately, they are an outdoor product exposed to sometimes extreme weather so we cannot offer a guarantee. IF there is a problem with our workmanship, and it is deemed a fault with the fabrication process, we will endeavour to correct the problem.
